I aligned this unit is to 2nd grade Common Core standards, but it can really be used in many grades. It is also compatible with many different versions of the book!

Baby Names

No, not for me...... a coworker!

I just love how true this really is...

Teacher have to think long and hard about the baby names they choose!
I can think of several names I hope my own children do not choose to name my grandchildren!

Happy Tuesday!

TpT Adding a Photo to your Teacher-Quote

I searched the internet to find out how everyone was posting a photo to their TpT page.
I found a good resource that told me to upload a picture

Afterwards, I needed to use this code to embed it:

Getting Ready For Valentine's Day

I have tried to put as many standards as possible in the Valentine's Day packet.  I have included compound words, reflexive pronouns, contractions, ABC order and several more.  I really wanted to include as much as I could.  I love setting up centers around the holiday theme!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Are you ready for MLK day?  In Georgia, we get the day off from school as a holiday.  I made a packet to help teach some of the Social Studies standards that go along with Martin Luther King.
I made a timeline and a text feature page that are very helpful for review!

What do I love...

I love having an organized classroom.  I really love a quiet room in the mornings when the students are coming in and unpacking their backpacks.  I like to have something on the board ready to go when they walk in.  I am very lucky I have four early arrivers that usually set the tone for the classroom!

Here are some of my favorites for third quarter.

Happy 2015!

It's a NEW YEAR!
I am excited about the new year!  I have never been good at New Years Resolutions, but I am going to work on a few goals this year!

The first goal is to focus on my Teachers Pay Teachers BUSINESS!  I had a great first year and feel if I put some effort into it, it could really be a GREAT business!  Fortunately I have a "numbers" husband and he has helped me see the potential!

So, with that said I have posted a few products over the past few days!  Check them out!!!

First I will type in the general idea
of what I am looking for.
Here I want to search for a great writing unit

Then I go down to GRADES and
narrow down the search by clicking on Second.

Then I do it again under price.
It all depends on how much I want am willing to spend!
I am normally real cheap and do not buy
anything over $6 or $7,

I will probably go to $10 and under!

I lUrV to save money!!!

Here are a few of my favorite Back To School items:
I used the 2nd Grade EDL word list and the 2nd grade phonics standards to make 16 spelling list for the first semester.  I have a few activities included to get you started, and an activity tic-tac-toe grid to use in a spelling journal for homework.  I am really excited about this unit!

This is my all-time favorite for second grade.  It is a great chapter book to get them hooked on the entire series!

I use this unit during the first few weeks of school to begin teaching all of the Reading Literature standards.
They love Mudge and his adventures!

This is a new series for my room this year.  I read these two books last year, but did not have the complete six book set.  I look forward to using them in guided reading and as read alouds.

This sweet book is one I read on the first few days of school.  All of the children can relate to it!
Very good too for Mother's Day!

I struggled last year with vocabulary in Social Studies and wanted something more consistent.  I have covered the Georgia Social Studies Standards and look forward to using the graphic organizers with the class.
Each unit has an assessment included.

I hope you enjoy and
HaPpY ShOpPiNg!!

Writing Station Makeover

This summer I planned and pinned so many ideas for my classroom, it was hard to decide where to start.  I really wanted to focus on my writing station.  I wanted all of the materials to be accessible to the kiddos and easy to maintain.
Here is my Before and the After!

I added a shelf to hold supplies - pens, colored pencils, highlighters, and paper.  Then I added the Writing Folders that I received from Donors Choose last year.  Underneath the cart I placed clipboards, dictionaries and another paper tray.  I added the bulletin board paper to the wall and plan on placing writing options.  The black crate on the floor is for lunch boxes.  I like how it turned out!
I am still trying to decide which Writing Unit to buy on TpT.  I would love any recommendations!
The writing center will continue to be a work in progress!!

I have a set of writing rubrics that I made to go under the white board, to the right.  I thinks they will really work great since they will be sitting right there at the writing center.

Check out this freebie for your bulletin board!

I Have Fallen in LoVe Again!

I have fallen in love with a pig - Mercy Watson!
Last year I fell in love with Mercy Watson.  There are six books in the series and they are perfect for students looking for books after picture books and before picture-less chapter books. This is the adventures of a pig who is treated like a child. Mercy usually causes the trouble, but also comes out as a hero, to the dislike of her two elderly neighbors, one of whom thinks pigs should not live in houses or ride in automobiles.

Kate DiCamillo has created wonderful characters, full of life, personality and fun quirks.  Mercy is an adorable pink pig who loves toast and adventure.

This unit is perfect for integrating reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar making it a complete language arts tool. Students love Mercy Watson and her many adventures! Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo has written these humorous early chapter books with quality writing, super fun art, and a humorous plot that is perfect for second graders.
